A Little Note

'bout the island

St. John is one of the US Virgin Islands. It does not have an airport. We get there by ferry via St. Thomas. It is 7 miles long and 3 miles wide. 2/3 of the island is a National Park. Also included in protected land is coral. There is a National Park office/dock at one of the beaches, Trunk, which charges an entrance fee ($3) and has a refreshment stand and a lifeguard.trunkbay.jpg This beach gets busy when there is a cruise ship docked in St. Thomas. The other beaches are practically deserted. There are trail maps, beach maps, snorkel guide, etc. all available through the National Park Office. There are two major towns - Cruz Bay and Coral Bay. Beautiful beaches with snorkling, a relaxed atmosphere & friendly locals. That's why we keep going back.

Confirmation with SkyTop Villa, St. John Car Rental, USAirways, Katilady provisions, talking about what to pack.

Bob, our rental owner, will be on vacation (in Florida?) when we are in St. John. He has given us the name of a man who will be handling things while he is gone. A little nervous about this knowing that the little apartment we are renting could very well have issues.

St. John Car Rental is confirmed for a Jeep Liberty. All vehicles rented are 4WD. We will pickup our first morning there - July 2.

USAirways notes no change to our original reservations. Flying with Frequent Flyer miles so the flight is $10 each for processing fees.

Katilady is a provisioning service we used before and we were pleased. We arrive too late to get staple items like milk, bread, eggs, softdrink, beer, wine. Enough to get us through an evening and the next morning.

Considering mailing items(liquids like shampoo, sunscreen, ...)so we can have the option of carry-on luggage. Bob has given me the address of a relative who will take the package to our villa. Would also mail some packaged snack food.
